GM Ice Dogs skate to 3-1 home win over Norskies

DRYDEN, Ont. – The Dryden GM Ice Dogs broke open a tie game with a pair of third period tallies to help them defeat the Thief River Falls Norskies 3-1 Sunday afternoon in a Superior International Junior Hockey League matinee at Memorial Arena.

The contest was scoreless past the midway mark of the second stanza when Brad Fortier notched his initial SIJHL goal to put Dryden in front.

Thief River Falls answered a minute and a half later though as Bryce Johnson’s fourth of the campaign tied it after two periods of play.

In the third, Josh Weber picked up the eventual game-winner at 6:11 as the GM Ice Dogs went back in front.

They then added some insurance, via the power play, as Xavier Halterman helped secure the victory with just over six minutes remaining.

Shots on goal favoured Dryden by a 43-38 count with Jacob Anthony picking up the win while Seth Purcilly suffered the defeat.
