Dryden skates past Fort Frances
DRYDEN, Ont. – The Superior International Junior Hockey League-leading Dryden GM Ice Dogs used a well-balanced attack getting goals from five different skaters as they defeated the Fort Frances Lakers 5-2 Wednesday at Memorial Arena.
Dryden got off to a strong start grabbing a two-goal lead after one period of play beginning with Nic Noseworthy’s 20th of the season at 5:05, which was followed by a power play marker from Braeden Allkins, who notched his SIJHL-best 41st of the campaign during a man advantage opportunity just over two minutes later.
The GM Ice Dogs kept coming and tacked on two more in the middle session to go up 4-0 after two thanks to Kris Hamlin and Jacen Bracko.
Fort Frances got on the board 4:53 into the third while up a man as Jared Virtanen collected his 20th for the Lakers.
The visitors added another, via the power play, at 18:10 to pull within two on a Matt Tustin effort.
Dryden would cap off the win with 50 seconds remaining as Woody Galbraith scored into an empty net to wrap things up.
Ben Dennis made 26 saves to record the victory for the GM Ice Dogs as he improved to an impressive 18-0-1-0 on the year while winning his 15th straight start.
Brandon Bodnar stopped 33 of 37 in defeat for Fort Frances.
