SIJHL announces suspensions

THUNDER BAY, Ont. – Superior International Junior Hockey League Commissioner Bryan Graham announced the following suspensions resulting from incidents in a game played on Saturday, Jan. 28:

CODY WARDNER, DRYDEN GM ICE DOGS – FIVE (5) GAMES

Player is suspended five (5) games for his actions in SIJHL Game No. 109, Thunder Bay North Stars @ Dryden GM Ice Dogs, played on Saturday, Jan. 28, 2017.

Wardner was assessed a major penalty and automatic game misconduct for checking from behind under Hockey Canada rule 6.4 (a).

Player is suspended for two games under CJHL Supplement regulation 3.1 and an additional three games under CJHL Supplement regulation 4.1 for accumulating three non-fighting major penalties in the same season.

This suspension will be served during the following games:

SIJHL Game No. 150 – Monday, Jan. 30 vs. Fort Frances
SIJHL Game No. 120 – Wednesday, Feb. 1 vs. English River
SIJHL Game No. 124 – Friday, Feb. 3 @ Thunder Bay
SIJHL Game No. 127 – Saturday, Feb. 4 @ Thunder Bay
SIJHL Game No. 128 – Friday, Feb. 10, @ English River

GARRETT GRAHAM, DRYDEN GM ICE DOGS – FOUR (4) GAMES

Player is suspended four (4) games for his actions in SIJHL Game No. 109, Thunder Bay North Stars @ Dryden GM Ice Dogs, played on Saturday, Jan. 28, 2017.

Graham made contact accidental contact, without intent to injure, with the face of an on-ice official during an altercation that caused an injury and for his actions was assessed a match penalty for physical harassment of officials under Hockey Canada rule 9.6.

This suspension is under Supplementary Discipline will be served during the following games:

SIJHL Game No. 150 – Monday, Jan. 30 vs. Fort Frances
SIJHL Game No. 120 – Wednesday, Feb. 1 vs. English River
SIJHL Game No. 124 – Friday, Feb. 3 @ Thunder Bay
SIJHL Game No. 127 – Saturday, Feb. 4 @ Thunder Bay

JAKE GUSHUE, DRYDEN GM ICE DOGS – THREE (3) GAMES

Player is suspended three (3) games for his actions in SIJHL Game No. 109, Thunder Bay North Stars @ Dryden GM Ice Dogs, played on Saturday, Jan. 28, 2017.

During the second period with an altercation already in progress, Gushue was assessed a major penalty and game misconduct for roughing under Hockey Canada rule 6.7 (k) for his involvement with an unsuspecting opposing player.

This suspension is for one game under CJHL Supplement regulation 7.1, plus two additional games under Supplementary Discipline and will be served during the following games:

SIJHL Game No. 150 – Monday, Jan. 30 vs. Fort Frances
SIJHL Game No. 120 – Wednesday, Feb. 1 vs. English River
SIJHL Game No. 124 – Friday, Feb. 3 @ Thunder Bay

NATHANIEL DUPUIS, THUNDER BAY NORTH STARS – ONE (1) GAME

Player is suspended one (1) game for his actions in SIJHL Game No. 109, Thunder Bay North Stars @ Dryden GM Ice Dogs, played on Saturday, Jan. 28, 2017.

Dupuis is suspended one game for being assessed a Game Misconduct in the last 10 minutes of play under Hockey Canada rule 4.6 (c).

The suspension will be served during the following game:

SIJHL Game No. 121 – Wednesday, Feb. 1 vs. Fort Frances
